We founded Certified American charged with this mission: To create an easy to use website that provides the ability to easily identify American made products and services. A site that gives you greater insight to the levels of American materials, manufacturing, and labor, that went into the product or service.
When you are shopping in a store, it can be relatively easy to find a product that is made here in the USA. Just flip the box over, or check a tag and you can see where a product is made. But even that experience doesn’t give you any insight into what that means. Was it just final assembly of products that were all outsourced from offshore/nearshore sources? Many of us have shifted our shopping to almost exclusively online channels. While some sites provide origin details in product listings, rarely are you able to filter by the related attributes.
Companies use terms like US Seller, US Company, US based Support, Designed in the USA, Engineered in the USA, etc… to try to give you some comfort that a product is, at least in some small way, helping the American worker directly. While these labels are not misleading, they can obfuscate the reality that the product may be made in a country with low wages, poor working conditions, poor quality raw materials, or worse…. child or even slave labor.
These companies will tell you that they would have a hard time making ends meet if they don’t use manufacturing outside the United States. They believe that you will not buy a product if it is $15 more than the product on the shelf next to it that was made somewhere in Asia. But, that isn’t you, and we want to make sure that they know this. As you use this site to find and buy great products, you send a message to these companies; American Made still has value.
We want to be open with you. Many of the links on our site are affiliate links. This helps us pay for the costs of technology and the humans that help run the site. However, we do not require an affiliate link for a product to be added to the site.
We want to hear from you as well. Let us know if we are missing a great product on our site. We have over 1,800 products in the hopper waiting to be reviewed and added. Almost all of the products that are listed today (April 17, 2023) are products that we have personally owned.
